Meet one of Long Beach Island’s most prolific book authors, Margaret Thomas Buchholz, at the Lacey Branch of the Ocean County Library on Monday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Buchholz will be reading from her latest publication, Josephine: From Washington Working Girl to Fisherman’s Wife. The book is a retelling of her mother’s diaries, putting them in the historic context of World War I, when her mother, Josephine Lehman Thomas, went to Washington as a pioneering “government girl,” through her years of traveling with Lowell Thomas (no relation), one of the country’s first travel writers, and then to her years as a “fisherman’s wife,” in the 1930s on Long Beach Island.Buchholz edited and published The Beachcomber, a weekly newspaper on LBI, for many years. She co-wrote Great Storms of the Jersey Shore, with Larry Savadove, compiled and edited Shore Chronicles: Diaries and Travelers’ Tales from the Jersey Shore and wrote New Jersey Shipwrecks: 350 Years in the Graveyard of the Atlantic among others. Buchholz will have copies of her books for sale and will inscribe them on request.  —P.J.
