The Triple Crown Watch Is On

It was just about a year ago when I was saying basically the same thing. The result Tonalist won the race and California Chrome fell short of the Triple Crown. Now, all eyes move once again to Belmont Park and the Belmont Stakes. The facility is located in Elmont, New York just outside New York City and was opened in 1905. This year the horse to watch is American Pharoah, ridden by Victor Espinoza, winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. On June 6th they will try to become the 12th horse and rider in history to win all 3 races. While my heart would love to see it happen, my head says the odds are against it. It’s the longest race of the three (at a mile and a half) and you’ll have horses running that did not participate in the Preakness and will be better rested. Regardless of the outcome, it should be an exciting race. I’ll end with a fun fact; only one jockey has won two Triple Crowns, Eddie Arcaro, riding Whirlaway in 1941 and Citation in 1948. Riders up.
