TIME To FALL Back
Darkness Falls Earlier, Be Alert for Pedestrians
At 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, it’s time to turn the clocks back an hour. The digital clocks will do the job automatically, but there are always those few in the house or vehicle that don’t update by themselves for the end of Daylight Savings Time.
Some older electronics may still be automatically changing on the wrong date so be sure to check ALL the clocks in your house.
A decade ago, Congress changed the end date for daylight savings time from the last weekend in October to the first Sunday in November to save energy. That became a debatable topic but it did give Halloween "trick or treaters" an extra hour of daylight to be outside which is certainly a benefit to most Moms & Dads with young costumed kids.
It is always an adjustment but pay extra attention during dusk when many drivers are leaving work because the sun sets early and continuing warm temperatures mean children and teens may still be riding bikes and playing outdoors.
The beginning of standard time is also a reminder to check & change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
Enjoy that extra hour whether you use it to sleep or play!
