New Jersey Prescribed Burning Has Begun

Have you noticed the smell of smoke in the air lately.  Well, the State of NJ's Forest Fire service has begun its 2017 prescribed burning.  There is expected to be between 10,000-20,000 acres burned this season.

Prescribed burning has been done in the state since the early 1920's.  Burning away the dead  brush close to the ground allows for healthy new growth and slows the progress of larger uncontrolled fires.  With less fuel to burn, the uncontrolled fires are more manageable.

If you happen to see smoke, do not hesitate to contact 911 and give a full description of what you see and where.  They will be more than happy to let you know if it is a prescribed burn or wether they will be sending someone out.Image title
