Beach View Farms in Manahawkin offers a Community Supported Agriculture program, to which members subscribe to receive weekly helpings of freshly harvested crops. Each week’s pickup varies slightly according to availability.

Memberships are called “shares,” fittingly enough, as the shareholders truly invest in the farm. CSA enrollment carries the same risk as the farmer: a crop failure or crop-damaging event results in a loss of product.
The fall program runs through Oct. 17. A half-share, based on one individual, is $90 for the season, and a full share is $175. Bounty will include broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, peas, winter squash, kale, collard greens, Swiss chard and cauliflower.
To sign up, Beach View’s Christopher Adams recommends first checking out the website,, or Email [email protected] to fill out the application and complete the transaction.

“The summer share went very well, and all of our customers were, at the least, satisfied; and most were well beyond satisfied,” according to Adams. “It was successful, and we will be doing it again next year.”
Look for signups to begin as early as January or February, with discounts for early subscribers. The longer summer share costs $350 for a full share and $175 for a half. This year’s harvest included fresh herbs (basil, rosemary, oregano, mint, sage, parsley), tomatoes, summer squash, eggplant, cucumbers, onions, green beans, strawberries, blackberries, flowers, peppers, kale and garlic.
By participating in the CSA program, Adams said, “not only are you buying local healthy produce for you and your family, but you’re supporting the farm and creating a place that is useful for the community.” —V.F.
