Does Saint Nicholas Have An Evil Accomplice

Did you know in the folklore of countries like Austria, Bavaria, Hungary and many more there is believed to be an evil accomplice to Jolly St. Nick?  The Krampus, a beast-like demon creature said to be half goat and half demon is said to roam city streets frightening kids and punishing the bad ones.

The Krampus appears to be furry, usually black or brown, cloven hooves, horns, a long serpent like tongue and fangs.  If a child were to be unlucky enough  to see him, the Krampus would show up with chains, bells and a sack to carry the bad child off to pay for his misbehaving.

The history of the Krampus is believed to date back to  pre-Christian Alpine traditions as per Wikipedia.

I have no doubt the Krampus has been used to put a shiver in children who may have been more naughty than nice throughout the year.

So remember, He's making a list,  checking it twice, gonna find out whose naughty or nice,  Santa Claus is coming to Town....or maybe the Krampus!!!

May you ALL have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!Image title
