Long Beach Island is famous for it's family oriented community. If you are in the planning stages for things to do this summer, be sure to include a sail on the AJ Meerwald.  The AJ Meerwald is the Official New Jersey Tall Ship. This year the AJ Meerwald celebrates it's 90th anniversary.  Commissioned as an oyster schooner in 1928 and restored 30 years ago, it now sails the waterways from  Virginia to Massachusetts.   The AJ Meerwald calls Bivalve - Port Norris home and is open to visitors throughout the year.  As a floating educational vessel, the schedule offers many ways to enjoy a sail on the schooner.  The daily sail provides families with the opportunity to assist with the task of raising and lowering the sails, along with interactive lessons of the ecosystems that exist in our waterways.  During the summer, the AJ Meerwald offers charters for those who prefer a private sailing experience.  So whether you are in Beach Haven or somewhere else, you can find the AJ Meerwald an excellent choice of family fun.

The AJ Meerwald will set sail  at 9 A.M. for day camp beginning July 18th titled "Sailor for a Day."  In the evening on the18th, a history themed sail is on schedule titled "Inferno at Sea: The Morro Castle."  Another themed sail is a wine and cheese launch scheduled for 7/22 at 6 P.M.  Please check the schedule and website of AJ Meerwald for more details regarding all the available times and dates to sail on this great ship.

Please keep in mind, if you love history of the Jersey Shore, The AJ Meerwald, Bayshore Center at Bivalve has membership, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities.  Join Teh Bayshore Center in it's quest to "celebrate and preserve the bay and its its people".
