Beaming Barney In Barnegat Light
Dated: July 31 2019
Are you looking to take a breathtaking adventure on Long Beach Island?
Head on up to the northern tip of the island and that's where you can find the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. Beaming Barney, sitting on 32 acres, still shines today over 22 nautical miles out into the ocean thanks to The Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse, a non-profit group. Standing over 171' feet tall, it's only 217 short steps to the top. There are so many astounding attributes that make the park a must-see; there is truly something for everyone.
While at the park, you may find historical enthusiasts, exercise nuts looking for a great leg workout, birders documenting the sights, photographers capturing that perfect smile, and even a couple of spearfisherman. There are picnic tables placed throughout the park making it a perfect destination for a family picnic or romantic sunset. Keep in mind the carry-in/carry-out policy the park has in place to keep pollution down. Biodegradable bags are provided at the park entrance.
My most recent trip this past week to the lighthouse was solely for exercise. I climbed the lighthouse, all 217 steps, with no break. You want to talk about feeling the burn? I'm always up for a challenge if you think you can beat me to the top!
