On the night of March 18, 2013 the Barnegat
Township Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to what they thought would be a routine call. While working at the scene, fellow firefighters noticed life time member and past Chief Ed Buckley unresponsive. Without hesitation, fellow firefighters Peter Toth and Frank Gadot quickly sprang into action administering lifesaving CPR and the application of a defibrillator unit. Assisted by Chief Scott Docherty, Assistant Chief Bob Lilly, Firefighter Matt Lynch, Firefighter Andrew Kantenwein and Firefighter James Hammer the men were able to revive Chief Buckley. Chief Buckley's cardiac event would have been fatal if not for the courageous and quick response by his brother firefighters. Chief Buckley was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment. He stayed in rehab for a few more weeks and is now back home with his family and the family of the Barnegat
Mayor Morano presented the CPR and Life Saving Award to Firefighters Gadot and Toth, and the other firefighters were given the Life Saving Award. The amount of training that our local firefighters receive is directly attributed to saving many lives. Thank you to our local heroes for another outstanding job!
