45th Annual 18 Mile Run Hosted By Long Beach Island

Sponsored by the LBI Jewish Community Center & the St. Francis Community Center the 18 Mile Run will take place on October 8 at 10:30  a.m.  Beginning in 1973 the race was held in memory of the 11 Israeli Olympic athletes that were slain on September 5, 1972 at the Munich Olympics.  The race still continues and is now also dedicated to all the women & men that lost their lives here on September 11, 2001 in America attacks.  The names of all the victims that lost their lives to both horrific tragedies will appear on mile markers posted through the course in their memory.   The route of the course will end in Barnegat Light State Park after beginning at the southernmost point of the Island in Holgate.  You can obtain an application at stfrancislbi.org or Raceforum.com/lbi.  Applications are also available at the St. Francis Community Center, 4700 Long Beach Blvd.  Buses will be available to transport registered runners to the starting line at 8:00 a.m. and will continue to run from the finish line to the Community Center.   The finish line will close at 2:15 p.m. and all registered runners are invited to attend a recognition luncheon immediately following the race at the Community Center.  You can get more information by calling 609-494-8861 for all activities and special events that are planned for the 18-Mile Run weekend.
