Proposed Skate Park In Beach Haven

The borough of Beach Haven hopes to have a brand new attraction and community draw by summer 2023: a skatepark. The proposed skatepark would be located to the west of the basketball court on waterfront Taylor Ave. This would be the island's second skatepark, with the other one residing at the polar opposite end of the island in Barnegat Light. The construction of this park is estimated to cost "approximately $260,000 and cover 4,000 square feet of land with a potential to add 2,000 extra square feet," as mentioned by Eric Englund in The Sandpaper. He goes on to mention that the park will include features such as handrails, ledges, stairs, mini ramps, quarter pipes, and a bowl. The proposed site will cater to those of all abilities (beginner, novice, pro).The addition of a skatepark would be an excellent way to maintain and encourage the island's unique surf/skate culture while also serving as a destination for future community events and competitions. Some residents expressed their concerns based on noise that could result from the park, while most saw it as a positive project for the public and local community. The borough hopes to have the project approved by the end of the year so they are able to begin construction in the winter.
