Spring Equinox On Long Beach Island

Spring is about to arrive!  In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring or vernal equinox will occur on Sunday, Mar 20, 2016 at 12:31 EDT.  Whether you're in Beach Haven, Surf City, Ship Bottom or anywhere else on earth, on this first day of spring sunrise and sunset are 12 hours apart.  As the sun will be shining directly on the earth's equator, there is almost exactly the same amount of daylight and darkness on this day.  Daylight then increases as the spring season progresses causing plants to 'spring forth' in the warming temperatures.  And if you happen to be on the other side of the globe, the Southern Hemisphere will experience its fall or autumnal equinox.  So no more excuses; it's time to get out in the fresh air exercising, planting, cleaning house or just relaxing. Happy spring!
