Luray, Virginia is a great place to visit.  The caverns are spectacular, and a must see if you are in the area.    It is approximately a 1 ¼ mile walk underground with breath taking views around every corner.  Make sure you bring your camera.

Exploring the area is great fun.  Picturesque farms with sheep, cows, and chickens roam the rolling hillsides.  And don’t forget the quaint little towns that formed at a bend in the road.  Some interesting early twentieth century architecture is interspersed with some not so interesting mid-twentieth century buildings.

A stop at a local restaurant for lunch always makes the day a little special.  We found the “Purple Door” in Page, Va. and had a memorable lunch, even the espresso was good.

I spent a week but could easily extend that and still not find all the hidden gems the area has to offer.
