"Readings from the Northside" is the newest
website about LBI that I have been turned on to. Check it out if you are an LBI lover. It is obviously someone's lovingly maintained
personal website, dedicated to showing off the splendor of our island. This site is filled with pictures of LBI in all
its winter glory. And along with that,
many pictures of the wild life that lives here year round. There are beautiful shots of the snowy owls
that appeared in late December. I myself
had a hard time seeing them, and was helped out by a local birdwatcher. He pointed out that they stay low in the
bushes so they can blend, and when I finally saw one; it was the turning of its
head that alerted me to its position.
When you see their faces they all but disappear when they blink. I was thrilled. We also can see a lot shots of peregrines and sharp shinned hawks,
along with several species of duck
wintering over too. Harlequins,
mallards, and woods. Snow buntings,
plovers and the usual gulls are also seen.
It also shows the visits by several harbor seals in the past few weeks. This website is a wonderful pause in your day, to enjoy and see that even
with the cold temps of the past few weeks; it is business as usual with mother
nature. For anyone who is an LBI lover
this website is beautifully curated and worth a look, with many cached pictures
and writings; it will make your day. I
googled the name and got into it that way.
