Can you remember what you were doing back in 1992? If you’re anything like me, you have trouble with last week. What’s so special about 1992 you may be asking? Well let me tell you. That was the last time the Pittsburgh Pirates made the playoffs, not only that, it was the last time they had a winning record, a 21 year span. That is a dubious honor that I’m sure they could do without. Not only is that a record for baseball, it’s a record for all Major League sports. The big event happened on Monday September 9th winning their 82nd game of the year. They beat the Texas Rangers 1-0. Then on Monday September 23rd they beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 to assure going to the playoffs. They gave a good fight to the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central division but ended up hosting the Cincinnati Reds in the Wild Card game. Winning the game 6-2 they now advance to play St. Louis. Regardless of how the season ends for them, “hats off” to the Pittsburgh Pirates and all their fans in the Steel City.

The other teams participating in the playoffs are:

In the National League - St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers & Atlanta Braves
In the American League – Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Oakland A’s and the winner of the wild card game between Tampa Bay Rays & Cleveland Indians to be played on Wednesday October 2nd.
