SOUTHERN REGIONAL STUDENT WINS NATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST,  Southern regional high school student     jackie unger has been named the winner of the 2015-16 high school essay contest presented by the national garden club, the largest volunteer gardening organization in the world. the purpose of the contest is to promote environmental awareness, in keeping with the theme "dont let the frogs croak " ungers winning essay explores the plight of two frogs in our changing environment through conversation with each other. as winner of the national essay contest, the long beach island resident has received a $1,000 scholarship as well as 2 awardes from the garden club of new jersey." the garden club of long beach island is proud of jackie and her accomplishments and of nancy kunz, who so expertly guides students with an interest in writing the opportunity to excell" said bonnie korbeil, the clubs publicity chair-wonan. the l b i garden club encourages students to enter the contest at the state and national levels each year through sponsorship, kunz , the clubs youth contest coordinator, helps head the community-based project, which also includes the new jersey and national garden clubs student poetry contests.
