Looking For A Great Last Minute Rental On LBI

Well you’re probably not going to find it. Unlike the commercials you see for companies that fill hotel rooms at big discounts, owners of rental properties don’t have the same mindset. Just yesterday I received an inquiry from a prospective tenant regarding a rental and asked if the owner would off $100 from a rate of $2,950. When I posed the question to the owner, he responded, “Why should I”? While each owner is different and you may find one that will accept 50% off, here are some reasons that they may choose to not rent instead of taking half a loaf.

* Cost of cleaning remains a fixed item.
* Commission, while it’s a percentage and would decrease with a lower rent, it still comes off a smaller top line.
* Utilities; the owner doesn’t get a discount when they lower the rent.
* There seems to be a perception that tenants with a discounted rate create more issues for the owner. Plus, some take the request for a discount personally. It’s as if you are insulting their property. They would rather use it themselves or let a family member/friend use it.

Rightly or wrongly, these are reasons you might not find the deal you’re looking for. One last thought, next time you go out for a nice meal, ask if they will give you it for 50% off.
