Last Call, First Call: A Success

It was great to put a face to the business and get to speak
with all of you at Nardi’s. We had a great turn out at our very
first informal meeting of the new LBI
Chamber of Commerce, over 80 of you
stopped in for pizza, pasta, friendly
conversation & networking. We almost
doubled our membership from this
event and the days following! Make
sure to check out all the new members
on each side of this article. It is also
important to note, it was stated at this event, that the first
membership meeting would be in January. Details will follow
after the next board meeting.
Homeowner Flood Insurance Flood Affordability Act
The Grimm‐Waters‐Richmond Home- owner Flood Insurance Affordability Act focuses on delaying     implementation of the flood  insurance rate increases as well as reimbursements for  those who successfully appealed maps and des- ignating Flood Insurance Advocates to help those with questions.
They propose to delay the rate in- creases until FEMA: 1) completes the
affordability study mandated by Biggert- Waters; and 2) certifies their flood mapping approach utilizes sound scientific and engineering methods. The affordability study must been completed within two years of this pro- posed bill’s enactment and lifts the monetary cap of $750,000 to ensure FEMA has the funding required to complete the study.
This bill would also allow FEMA to utilize
the National Flood Insurance Fund to reimburse those who have successfully appealed a map determination. Making this reimbursement an eligible expense would give FEMA an incentive to “get it right the first time”.
This bill also proposes the establishment of a Flood Insurance Advocate within FEMA to answer current and prospective policyholder questions about flood map- ping and insurance rates.
