Home Owners Are Remodeling
In 2015, the majority of home owners that were remodeling their homes were either redoing their bathrooms or kitchens while some were redoing both.
The bathroom and kitchen again were at the top of standard remodeling jobs according to the National Association of Home Builder's Remodeling Market Index (RMI) survey. This report surveys re-modelers completing projects through the year. Kitchens ranked second with 79% while Bathrooms came in first with 81%. More re-modelers saw an increase in 2015 of these two more common remodels than previous years. Since the beginning of the survey in 2001 these were the highest percentage of remodels especially bathrooms that show no sign of slowing down.
An amazing Forty-nine percent of re-modelers reported remodeling entire homes, 47 percent reported room additions, and 36 percent reported door or window replacements rounded out the top 5 re-model projects. The least likely remodeling projects for home owners in 2015 were enclosing a porch (16 percent), finishing an attic (4 percent) and historic preservation at (10 percent).
The past decade posted the largest percentage of whole home remodeling projects up 6 percent in 2015 from 2014. 2011 showed the low point which showed 35% of all remodels being a whole house.
Room additions also showed a 7 percent increase in 2015 from the previous year which was the highest number since 2005. This is still far off from 2004 when room additions peaked at 70% and 57% in 2005.
