Holiday Giving On Long Beach Island And Around The World
Whether you live on LBI or anywhere else in the US or around the world, the holidays evoke the spirit of giving. When I graduated from college, I began sponsoring a child in Ethiopia through an organization called Christian Children's Fund. That organization is now Child Fund International and serves children and communities in countries all over the world. 85% of donations go directly to the children and you can have a real one on one relationship with a child in any country or give a one time gift. Another great way to give at holiday time is through FeedProjects.com. You can purchase beautiful bags (there are t-shirts and jewelry too) for gifts and at the same time feed children all over the world. The organization delivers meals as well as creating careers for those in need. A more traditional way to serve others and give back is to donate to the Salvation Army. They serve over 125 countries providing emergency relief, evangelism, Anti-trafficking, women's support, health services and support for schools. You can go on-line or give a small or generous donation in front of your favorite shopping spots like Walmart and the mall. And we can't forget those who have given so much for us in this country. By supporting the Wounded Warrior Project people have helped to serve over 100,000 soldiers and their family members, provided over $160 million in benefits and changed legislation make payments of over $2 billion to the warriors and their families. These are only a few of my favorite ways to give, but even if you donate time to a local soup kitchen, grab a name off a giving tree or let the other person take the parking spot, it makes the world better for everyone. Happy Holidays!
