It rained last Sunday, so my wife and I decided to take a short ride to the Laurita Winery, one of several wineries only a short drive from Long Beach Island. There are many reasons that I highly recommend that you put a visit to the Laurita Winery on your list of things-to-do.
The first thing one notices is the natural beauty. After the bucolic drive through the central New Jersey farmland, you are greeted by a long, gently sloping driveway bounded by large granite boulders and neat plantings on both sides of the road. The winery sits atop a hill and offers a gorgeous view of the acres of vineyards and the surrounding forests.
The tasting fee is a more-than-fair $7.00. Best of all, we were surprised by the great tastes of their home-grown offerings. We especially enjoyed all three of the “Down the Shore” variety.
The employees are super friendly and very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed their willingness to talk about the two families that own the Laurita Winery.
Before we left, we decided to check out the music coming from around the corner of the tasting room. We had a great experience. The large, open room offers a spectacular view and plenty of seating. On this occasion the entertainment was provided by Steve and Debbie Berger. They are terrific! Debbie has a great voice and Steve performs wonders on his keyboard. We felt like we were sitting a living room with our best friends. They invite you to dance or sing along.
