Come To Beach Haven For Some Holiday Fun

The summer isn’t the only time of year Beach Haven is thriving with exciting events and festive spirit. The holidays are always a magical occasion in the Queen City as local organizations, businesses and individuals get together for Celebrate the Season, a gathering of special offerings throughout town every weekend from the end of November to the beginning of January.

While the Long Beach Island Historical Museum and the Beach Haven Community Arts Program have hosted holiday events for many years, Beach Haven Future, a local organization comprised of business owners and residents, helps coordinate the celebrations with the borough and business community to commemorate the holidays from Black Friday through New Year’s day, from a Cookie Throw-Down in Bay Village to holiday parties at local restaurants.

“We are most looking forward to the dog parade this year,” said Lisa Mack, a BHF member. “It is, unanimously, Beach Haven Future’s board of directors’ favorite holiday event. It brings the community together and everyone smiles, even the dogs. Last year we introduced ‘Spot a Character’ Day and combined it with the dog parade. The response from the participants and businesses was so positive that we plan to combine the two events again this year.”

The events will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, with “Spot a Holiday Character” Day beginning at Regenerate and ending at Fantasy Island, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The dog parade, offering prizes, will take place at noon at Veterans Memorial Park.

A pet parade, a separate event sponsored by Buddy’s Pet Stop, will be held that same day at the Taylor Avenue ball field from noon to 2. The event will offer pet adoptions through Fetch Me a Home Pet Rescue, pictures with Santa and holiday costume prizes.

The first official weekend of Celebrate the Season merriment will begin Friday, Nov. 25, with first-time and traditional activities such as Sea La Vie’s Holiday Sea of Savings, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., which includes giveaways and a chance to win an original Lucy Evelyn watercolor. Kapler’s Pharmacy’s ever-popular Holiday Soirée, featuring horse and carriage rides, ice sculpture, giveaways, light fare and beverages, will take place between 4:30 and 6:30. The Festival of Lights will begin throughout town and Veterans Memorial Park at 5.

Residents and visitors can also pick a tag from the “Tree of Warmth” throughout the day at Murphy’s Marketplace to benefit the St. Francis Center program. Individuals who enter a tag will have a chance to win a holiday basket. Customers who purchase a whole Italian sub will get half an Italian sub for free during the market’s “No Cook” Fridays as well.

Breakfast with Santa at Carmen’s Restaurant, offering gifts and a special kids menu, will be held by reservation Saturday, Nov.26. The Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Co.’s Craft Show will also be held from 10 until 3 that day, along with Sea La Vie’s Holiday Sea of Savings from 10 to 7. Murphy’s will offer samplings of hot cider, holiday breads and pumpkin dip from 10 to 4.

Residents and visitors are also invited to Meet Santa and Mrs. Claus in Bay Village between noon and 2, and the second day of Kapler’s Holiday Soiree will be held from 4:30 to 6:30.

The Long Beach Island Historical Museum will be decorated for Christmas during an open house in the evening, offering hot drinks and cookies from 4:30 to 8. Caroling around the tree will take place at 7.

Bring forks or wire coat hangers for marshmallows around the fire across the street from the museum at Veterans Memorial Park, between 4:30 and 7.

Sea La Vie’s Holiday Sea of Savings will also be held Sunday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m
