Chowderfest is Fast Approaching

Once Labor Day hits and the Fall Season sets in on LBI, we start to look ahead to Chowderfest Weekend. Typically it takes place on the first weekend in October, but this year, the dates are September 29th and 30th. The headlining event is the Annual Chowder Cook-Off Classic, or more affectionately known as Chowderfest. It has become a tradition here on LBI, where family and friends, locals and out-of-towners come to celebrate the end of the summer and usher in the off season.
Local restaurants compete in either the Red or the White category with attendees and critics voting on their favorite chowder in both categories. Prizes are awarded for both People's Choice and Critic's Choice in both categories.
There will also be live music, food and drinks, including many Bud Light trucks parked throughout the event. There are also some fun activities for the kids such as making colored sand bottles and face painting.
The weekend kicks off on Sat, September 29th, with the Merchants Mart. Many local shops and vendors are on hand with their merchandise, most offering their best deals of the season.
Also on Saturday, The Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Dept holds its Annual Block Party, to raise funds for their station. This has also become a tradition in Beach Haven, it also features live music, food and drinks, including the beer truck again, and activities such as a bounce house for the kids.
You can purchase tickets in advance for Chowderfest by clicking here. You do not need tickets for Merchant's Mart, and tickets for the Firehouse Block Party can be purchased at the event.
If you normally come down for Chowderfest Weekend, we look forward to seeing you again. If you have never been, you definitely want to check it out and become part of the tradition that defines Long Beach Island in late September and early October.
It is by far my favorite weekend of the year on LBI.
